DIPOLE

LEAK DETECTION IN WATERPROOFING SHEETS THROUGH ELECTRICAL GEOPHYSICAL PROSPECTING METHOD (DIPOLE DEVICE)
In all those works where waterproofing sheets are installed (HDPE, PVC, EPDM… geomembranes) and where these must bear the typical work activities, there is a risk that the geomembrane can suffer damages such as puncture, punching shear, tear and, in general, breaks.

When the works after completion of the waterproofing have been carried out, the detection of leaks in the geomembrane is possible through the electrical geophysical prospecting method (dipole device).
The leak detection through dipole device is most commonly used in the landfills after the gravel leachate drainage layer has been spread.

The experience shows that, although the gravel layer has been spreadproperly, there is a risk that the underlying geomembrane gets damaged and the dipole method helps to detect those damages.

This method can also be used to detect leaks in liquid content ponds (leachate ponds, irrigation ponds, tailing ponds …)
